Attended parking lots are located next door at the Holiday Inn and across the street.
How should we dress?
The choice is yours. Please be comfortable, and choose clothes that make you look your best! Feel free to bring several changes of clothing so you can try at least two or three different "looks".
Boys and girls casual like jeans and a top, a dressy feminine dress, "special" outfits - school, sports,or costumes, or cute pajamas etc. In summer shorts or bathing suits or in winter nice coats, scarves, and hats will work for a nice seasonal look.
For families, solid mid-tone clothing often works best photographically - very bright colors, big flashy large prints or patterns can be distracting. Dark colors are also fine for a more elegant or formal look. Long sleeves and trousers - especially for the guys - usually look better than short. Try to choose outfits that work well together. Family shots often come out particularly well if you're all wearing similar outfits - everyone in jeans or chinos and blue shirts, for instance.
FEEL FREE TO BEND OR BREAK THESEGUIDELINES IF YOU HAVE A PARTICULAR LOOK THAT YOU WANT.
Props and Posing
I will be shooting on a plain white or black background; no fancy sets or props. The result is a very "clean" picture that is all about the person, not the background. Please feel free to bring stuff with you that will add to your photographs- sports gear for the boys, colorful little toys, favorite dolls or teddy bears or other stuffed animals for the little kids, etc. My clients are as creative as I am, so please bring some posing ideas with you. Tear out some pages from magazine and show me what you want to look like. Also bring along old photos of you, if they show you in a way that you like. No guarantees, but I'll do my best to recreate similar look, or maybe even improve on it.
Makeup, hair, hands & nails, and jewelry
Light "street" makeup should be all the ladies need. Nothing theatrical, unless that's your usual style. I will not be using a makeup artist or stylist on this shoot, so bring your own "kit" to do any touch ups or changes you might need. Men, "come as you are" but please remember to shave- or trim your mustache and beard.
Clean, shiny hair, in a style you are comfortable with. This may not be the best day to experiment with a new style you haven't tried before!
Many poses are “heads and hands” shots, and I also usually do some barefoot shots. So clean, well trimmed nails are a must. Neutral nail polish colors, or a color that compliments your outfits and matches your makeup, helps bring it all together.
Less jewelry is generally better than more. Very large, flat, or shiny pieces may be so dazzling they distract attention from you, and I want the picture to be about you, not the jewelry.
What will the photo shoot be like?
Relax! This should be fun. If you're not having a good time, it will show in your pictures.
Two hours in our private studio have been set aside just for you. That will be plenty of time for a wide variety of different poses in different outfits. I go for a look that is fairly "playful" in spirit, but incorporating the technical elements - lighting, posture, and composition - of traditional "formal" portraiture so we can get professional results.
There’s a changing area, and a sparkling clean bathroom with fresh towels and some basic toiletries and grooming aids, just in case you left your hair spray or something else behind. There is time to take a break from the shooting and have a drink or a bite to eat. I keep plenty of refreshments and a variety of snacks on hand so no one starves or dies of thirst during a shoot.
You just have to come and have a good time. I'm the only one who should have to work at it, and - lucky for me - I love my work.
